Fatullah , Feb 27 : Pakistan registered their first victory in the Asia Cup by beating Afghanistan by 72 runs and even gained bonus point here on Thursday.
Chasing Pakistan's 248 for eight, Afghanistan were all out for 176 runs.
Noor Ali Zadran remained the top scorer for Afghanistan with his 44.
The Afghanistan cricketers, though impressed with their bowling, performed poorly with their bats.
Asghar Stanikzai (40) and Nawroz Mangal (35) added 74 runs in the third wicket partnership as it was a high point in the innings.
The rest failed to make significant contribution against the test playing giant.
Mohammad Hafeez picked up three wickets by giving away 29 runs in his 9.2 overs for Pakistan.
Afghanistan, however, bowled well and put some pressure on Pakistan who once seemed of getting bowled out within 200.
Reducing Pakistan to 117 for six, Afghanistan seemed to register the first major upset in the tournament.
Umar Akmal's unbeaten 102 helped Pakistan to pull themselves out of the situation and post a competitive 248 for eight on the scorecard.
He smashed seven boundaries and three sixes in his 89-ball knock.
Sri Lanka had defeated Pakistan in the first match of the series.
Dawlat Zadran, Mirwais Ashraf and Samiullah Shenwari took two wickets each for Afghanistan.
