An overheating battery aboard a Boeing 787 Dreamliner that reportedly caused the plane to be grounded recorded temperatures that could easily melt rock.

The faulty power unit generated poured out white smoke due to heat generation that reached a sweltering 660 degrees centigrade, enough to melt minerals.

According to the report, one of the eight lithium-ion cells in the plane's battery system swelled and electrolytic solution was sprayed out, Sky News reported.

Meanwhile, the ministry is still investigating the case with Boeing in order to find the reason behind the overheating of the battery.
