Rock music 'boosts exercise endurance' in the best way possible
London, Oct 2 : Rock and pop music with a strong fast beat is the best to exercise
to, says a new research.
According to the Brunel University study, listening to the right music can increase a
person's capacity for exercise by 15 per cent.
To reach the conclusion, Dr Costas Karageorghis from the School of Sport and Education,
asked 30 people to run on a treadmill while listening to a selection of music and were
asked to keep in time with the beat.
Certain tracks increased endurance by 15 per cent and helped the participants enjoy
running more even when they were close to physical exhaustion.
According to Dr Karageorghis, 'the heat is on' by 'Glenn Frey', 'Don't stop me now' by
'Queen' and 'Dancing Queen' by 'Abba' are good examples for moderate to intense
exercise.
The study will be published in the Journal of Sport & Exercise Psychology next
year.
"The synchronous application of music resulted in much higher endurance while the
motivational qualities of the music impacted significantly on the interpretation of
fatigue symptoms right up to the point of voluntary exhaustion," Telegraph quoted Dr
Karageorghis, who is a reader in sport psychology at Brunel University, as saying.
