Vaughan refuses to accept that his England career is over

London, Sept.29 : Former England captain Michael Vaughan has refused to accept that his England career is over and has given himself a year to win back his place.

Vaughan, 33, was axed from the team for the tour of India to be held in December, but he believes can earn him a dramatic Ashes recall next summer.

Vaughan will stay away from cricket for another two months to recharge his batteries fully before he begins to practise indoors in December. He then plans to play overseas in January.

He is planning to play top-level club cricket, probably in Australia.

Vaughan says he is taking inspiration from Andrew Strauss, who returned to Test cricket in a blaze of runs following a six-month exile.

Vaughan is also likely to stay at Yorkshire despite talk of a switch to Lancashire or a dream-team partnership at Hampshire with ex-England coach Duncan Fletcher.

An insider said: "Michael's determined to play for England again. If he can't play this winter, he wants to be certain of being on top of his game early next summer."

Vaughan was controversially handed a 250,000-pound central contract by the ECB this month - despite scoring just 41 runs in four innings for Yorkshire since his tearful resignation as skipper.

He has recently signed up to write a newspaper column and Sky would love to have him as a commentator for the 2009 battle with Australia.

But he is determined to battle for his spot and even an apparent breakdown in communication with the selectors will not soften his resolve.

Vaughan claims he did not wish to be considered for India because of his lack of runs and told chief Geoff Miller not to waste time discussing his possible inclusion.
