David Gilmour pays poignant tribute to Richard Wright
London, Sept 24 : Pink Floyd's lead guitarist David Gilmour has paid a poignant
tribute to the band's founding member Richard Wright, who died of cancer last week.
On the BBC Two music show 'Later... With Jools Holland', the 62-year-old star paid his
tribute to Wright by singing 'Remember A Day', written by Wright in Pink Floyd's 1968
album Saucerful of Secrets.
"He created a sound that glued the whole Pink Floyd thing together," BBC quoted
Gilmour, as saying.
"He was just a very self-effacing but very talented, lovely chap. We're incredibly sad
to have lost him," he added.
Wright was due to accompany Gilmour on the TV show, but sent the guitarist a text
message three weeks ago saying he would not be able to play.
Gilmour revealed that Wright was "so shy and quiet".
While talking about the late keyboardist's contribution to Pink Floyd, he said, "He
brought a slightly more jazzy and ethereal element to it all.
"He had some elusive quality, let's call it soul, that glued the whole thing together.
You notice it when it's missing," he added.
