Uttar Pradesh to tote up wild animals killed by trains
Lucknow, Sep 11 : Almost a week after a tiger was run over by a speeding train in a
forest reserve, Uttar Pradesh forest authorities have started compiling details of wild
animals killed similarly on railway tracks, an official said Thursday.
"We are preparing a list of sensitive stretches on railway tracks where animals have
died in the last 15 years," Bahraich divisional forest officer R.K. Singh told IANS.
Last Friday, a tiger, the country's national animal, was run over by a speeding train
in a forest area in Bahraich district.
On Tuesday, the carcasses of a peacock, India's national bird, and two other birds were
found mangled in the engine of a train in Lucknow.
"The records being prepared by the forest department will be handed over to the railway
authorities so that adequate measures can be adopted to check such incidents," said
Singh.
