Key Points
Arun Bhardwaj currently serves as Principal District & Sessions Judge
Will oversee Delhi HC administrative functions from May 2025
Replaces outgoing Registrar General Kanwal Jeet Arora
Previously handled high-profile corruption and coal scam cases
As part of his appointment process, Bhardwaj will serve as an Officer on Special Duty on a deputation basis before officially assuming the role of Registrar General.
Currently, he holds the position of Principal District & Sessions Judge-cum-Special Judge (PC Act) (CBI), a role that has involved adjudicating high-profile corruption cases. His attachment to the office of the Registrar General before his official assumption of duties is intended to ensure a smooth transition.
The outgoing Registrar General, Kanwal Jeet Arora, has been repatriated to his parent cadre, concluding his tenure in the role. Arora has overseen key judicial administrative functions and procedural developments during his time in office.
Notably, in April 2021, the Supreme Court appointed him, alongside Sanjay Bansal, as a special judge to preside over trials related to the coal scam--a case that has been under investigation and litigation since 2014.
With his new role as Registrar General, Bhardwaj will now be responsible for overseeing the administrative framework of the Delhi High Court, ensuring efficient case management, judicial workflow, and coordination between various legal departments.
