England to tour Sri Lanka for white-ball series ahead of 2026 Men's T20 WC

England is heading to Sri Lanka for a white-ball series in early 2026 as part of their T20 World Cup preparations. The tour features three ODIs followed by three T20 internationals across January and February. This marks England's first visit to Sri Lanka for limited-overs cricket in more than seven years. The subcontinental conditions will provide valuable experience for England's quest to win a third T20 World Cup title.

London, Aug 20

England will be touring Sri Lanka for three ODIs and three T20Is in January-February 2026 as part of their build-up to the 2026 Men’s T20 World Cup.

The Harry Brook-led side will open the tour with a three-match ODI series from January 22 to 27, followed by three T20Is between January 30 and February 3. The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) said Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) will confirm the venues for the matches in due course.

The series in Sri Lanka will give England valuable experience of playing in subcontinental conditions ahead of their quest to win a third men’s T20 World Cup crown, after having won the tournament previously in 2010 and 2022.

This will also be England’s first white-ball tour of Sri Lanka in more than seven years; their previous visit in 2018 yielded a 3-1 ODI series win and victory in the one-off T20I. The two sides last met in a T20I during the 2022 World Cup, when England beat Sri Lanka by four wickets in the group stage on their way to the title at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

Sri Lanka’s next men’s T20I assignment is a three-match away series in Zimbabwe, while England will host South Africa for three T20Is starting on September 10 in Cardiff.

Harry Brook leading the side is interesting! He's young but has shown good temperament. Hope this series gives opportunities to some new talents from both sides.

England's spin game will be tested big time in Sri Lanka. Their batsmen need to handle turning tracks better if they want to win another World Cup. Last time they struggled against quality spin.

As an England fan, I'm excited but also nervous about this tour. Sri Lanka at home is a different beast altogether. Hope our boys adapt quickly to the conditions!

Good to see bilateral series happening despite packed schedules. These matches are crucial for team development. Hope both teams field their strongest squads!

The timing is perfect - January/February in Sri Lanka should provide ideal cricket weather. Looking forward to some exciting contests between bat and ball!

While I appreciate the preparation, I wish BCCI would also organize more such bilateral series for Team India in different conditions. Our players need similar exposure before big tournaments.
