Women's T20 WC: Pakistan skipper Fatima suffers injury scare ahead of crucial India clash, hopes to be fit

Birmingham, June 14

Pakistan captain Fatima Sana faced an injury scare ahead of her side's ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2026 opening match against arch-rivals India.

Sana, who is leading Pakistan for the second time in a T20 World Cup, suffered a knock in the nets on Saturday. However, the injury does not seem serious enough to keep her out of the game.

"Ayesha (Zafar) baaji played the shot, and it hit my knee," Sana said in the pre-match press conference as quoted by ICC. "I think it is good now," she added.

When asked if she would be fit for Sunday's all-important clash, Sana replied, "Yes, hopefully."

Though Pakistan has been a part of all previous Women's T20 World Cups, they are yet to win the title. The competition is even stiffer this time as the ICC event has expanded to 12 teams.

This is classic pre-match drama. Every India-Pakistan game has some last-minute injury scare or pitch controversy. It's like both teams need the extra spice. But honestly, I hope it's not serious—neither side wants to win because of an injury. Good luck to both, may the best team win!

As an Indian fan, I want to see a full-strength Pakistan team. It's no fun beating a weakened opponent. Fatima is a great captain and her bowling will be key for them. But I hope our girls like Harman, Deepti, and Shafali tear into whoever they face. 🚀 #INDvPAK #WomensT20

Yaar, these net injuries are always a bit worrying. But "hopefully" is not very convincing for a captain on the eve of the biggest group match. If she's even 90%, she should play—these matches are about morale as much as skill. Pakistan's batting is fragile already; without their best bowler, India will feast.

Honestly, I respect the Pakistan team trying to be competitive. But Fatima's injury might be a blessing in disguise for them if it forces others to step up in the field. That said, for Indian fans, nothing beats the feeling of defeating a full-strength Pakistan. So I hope she plays and bowls well, but not too well! 😉

Injury scare just before the India match? Standard script. But let's be honest—Pakistan's women's team is nowhere near India's level anyway. Even if Fatima plays
