Vizag Port handled 50 pc of India's seafood exports in FY2025

Visakhapatnam Port has emerged as India's leading marine export gateway, handling 50 per cent of India's seafood exports during 2024-25, the Central government informed the Lok Sabha.
The share of marine product exports through Visakhapatnam Port jumped from 29.67 per cent in 2023-24 to 50.87 per cent in 2024-25, an increase of over 21 percentage points in just one year.
The figures, shared in response to a question raised by Lok Sabha MP Vemireddy Prabhakar Reddy, underline the rapid growth of Vizag Port as India's leading marine export gateway.
Minister of State for Commerce and Industry, Jitin Prasada told the member that according to the Marine Products Export Development Authority (MPEDA), exports of marine products through Visakhapatnam Port accounted for $2.19 billion out of India's total seafood exports of $7.38 billion during FY 2024. The corresponding share was 50.87 per cent in FY 2025 and 48.89 per cent in FY 2026.
According to a release from the state government here, the figures highlight Andhra Pradesh's rapidly growing export strength.
The sharp increase reflects the renewed momentum witnessed under the TDP-led NDA Government in Andhra Pradesh, transforming Visakhapatnam Port into a major driver of India's seafood exports, it said.
In contrast to the position inherited post 2023-2024 under YSRCP rule, the port now handled more than half (50.87 per cent) of India's marine exports in 2024-25 under the NDA, demonstrating the State's growing competitiveness in global markets and its strengthening export infrastructure.
The government further informed Parliament that the port continued to maintain a dominant 48.89 per cent share in FY2026, highlighting sustained export performance.
The government also highlighted that Visakhapatnam Port serves as a key export gateway under the One District One Product (ODOP) initiative. To strengthen exports, it is supporting producers through domestic and international exhibitions, the GeM ODOP Bazaar, buyer-seller meets and engagement with Indian Missions abroad, expanding market access for Andhra Pradesh's products.
The parliamentary reply further highlighted that Andhra Pradesh has identified 99 ODOP products across its 26 districts, reflecting the State's focus on promoting local industries and expanding export opportunities through value-added products, added the release.

Impressive numbers. I'm an exporter and can confirm that Vizag's efficiency has improved a lot post-2024. The turnaround time at the port is much better now. But we need similar investments in other ports like Chennai and Mundra to reduce our dependence on a single gateway.
