Rajasthan fourth in Jan Dhan deposits as over 3.85 crore accounts opened

Jaipur, July 27

Rajasthan has emerged as one of the leading states in implementing the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana, with more than 3.85 crore Jan Dhan accounts opened across the state.

According to the latest data released by the Ministry of Finance, Rajasthan ranks fourth in the country in terms of total deposits in Jan Dhan accounts, reflecting growing financial inclusion and public confidence in the formal banking system.

The scheme has played a key role in bringing economically weaker and marginalised sections into the banking network while ensuring the seamless transfer of benefits under various government welfare programmes. Women have emerged as the biggest beneficiaries of the scheme in Rajasthan.

Of the total 3.85 crore accounts, more than 2.19 crore belong to women, accounting for 57 per cent of all Jan Dhan accounts in the state, higher than the national average of 56 per cent. The accounts have enabled women, especially those in the unorganised sector, to access banking services, government subsidies, insurance schemes, pension benefits and other financial services. Deposits in Rajasthan's Jan Dhan accounts have crossed Rs 24,610 crore, placing the state fourth nationally.

Across India, total deposits under the scheme have reached Rs 2.67 lakh crore, indicating increasing public trust in formal banking and higher financial participation. To promote digital transactions, over 2.87 crore RuPay debit cards have been issued to Jan Dhan account holders in Rajasthan.

Beneficiaries whose accounts were opened after August 28, 2018, are eligible for Rs 2 lakh accidental insurance cover, along with access to cashless payment facilities.

Apart from zero-balance banking, Jan Dhan account holders can also avail of an overdraft facility of up to Rs 10,000 and receive government benefits directly through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system.

Officials said the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana has significantly strengthened financial inclusion in Rajasthan by expanding access to banking services, promoting digital payments and ensuring transparent delivery of welfare benefits to millions of beneficiaries.

Good to see Rajasthan doing well but let's be honest - many accounts are lying dormant with zero balance. The real test is how many are actually used for regular transactions. In my village, people opened accounts for government benefits but still prefer cash for daily expenses. Digital India will take time, bhai.

👏 Impressive numbers! 57% women account holders shows the scheme is empowering our mothers and sisters. My aunt in Jodhpur now handles all household finances through her Jan Dhan account. One suggestion though - the overdraft facility of Rs 10,000 is good but the interest rate should be lower for poor families.

Great initiative but ground reality is mixed. Many people in my area still don't know about the insurance cover or overdraft facility. Banks should do more awareness campaigns in local languages. Also, RuPay cards are fine but merchants often don't accept them - payment infrastructure needs to improve.

As a woman from a small town, I can vouch for how this scheme changed lives. My mother-in-law got her first bank account at age 60 and now she gets her widow pension directly. No more going to the sarpanch's office and waiting for hours. The DBT system has reduced corruption significantly. Hats off to the government for this! 🙏

Important milestone no doubt, but we should also focus on financial literacy. Many Jan Dhan account holders don't know how to use internet banking or even check their balance properly. The government should tie up with local NGOs to conduct basic banking training. Otherwise, these accounts will just remain paperwork.
