Production Linked Incentive Scheme for Automobile and Auto Component Industry, has attracted Rs 44,326 crore of investment and generated 67,820 jobs as of March-end, the government said on Tuesday.
The scheme's implementation also saw incentive disbursements of Rs 2,386.36 crore up to March 31, 2026, MoS Heavy Industries, Bhupathiraju Srinivasa Varma said in the Lok Sabha
Government approved the scheme with a budgetary outlay of Rs 25,938 crore for enhancing India's manufacturing capabilities for Advanced Automotive Products (AAT) on September 23, 2021.
PLI Auto is a pan-India scheme and approved applicants are free to set up units anywhere in the country.
Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme on "National Programme on Advanced Chemistry Cell (ACC) Battery Storage", was approved in May 2021, with an outlay of Rs 18,100 Crore for 50 GWh capacity. Till date, no beneficiary firm has claimed any incentive under the PLI ACC scheme, the minister said.

MoS for Commerce and Industry Jitin Prasada said the PLI schemes were launched with an approved financial outlay of Rs 1.91 lakh crore.
Exports under the PLI programme have risen sharply over the last three years, increasing from Rs 4 lakh crore in FY24 to Rs 6.5 lakh crore in FY25 and further to Rs 15.2 lakh crore in FY26.

This is very promising for the auto sector. Rs 44,326 crore investment is no joke. The fact that exports under PLI jumped from Rs 4 lakh crore to Rs 15.2 lakh crore in three years shows the scheme is actually working. Make in India is becoming a reality. 🇮🇳
Interesting numbers, but I'm curious about the breakdown of those 67,820 jobs. Are they in manufacturing, R&D, or mostly assembly? Also, the ACC battery scheme having zero claims so far is concerning. We can't ignore battery manufacturing if we want to lead in EVs.
My husband works in an auto ancillary unit in Tamil Nadu, and he says the PLI scheme has actually brought in new technology and training. The global companies are setting up shop here, and it's creating a skill ecosystem. But we need more focus on R&D, not just assembly.
The PLI scheme is definitely making India an attractive destination for global supply chains, especially with the China+1 strategy. Rs 15.2 lakh crore in exports is impressive. But we need to watch out for the environmental impact of so many new manufacturing units. Sustainable growth is key.
Good to see that states like UP and Karnataka are also getting a piece of the pie, not just Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu. But I worry about the PLI ACC scheme—zero claims means companies are finding it hard to meet the criteria. We need to simplify the process or provide more handholding for MSMEs.
