Over 12 Lakh Assam Farmers Enrolled Under AgriStack: CM Sarma

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that over 12 lakh farmers across 31 districts have been enrolled under the AgriStack initiative. The digital platform creates a unique Aadhaar-linked Farmer ID for each registered farmer, mapping them with farmland and crop data. The initiative aims to provide farmers with cheaper credit, quality agricultural inputs, and better market access. The programme is part of the Centre's broader effort to modernise agriculture through technology-driven solutions.

Over 12 lakh Assam farmers enrolled under AgriStack, says CM Himanta Sarma

Guwahati, June 20

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday said that farmer welfare remains a key pillar of the BJP-led double-engine government's developmental agenda, highlighting the state's progress in implementing the Centre's AgriStack initiative to improve access to agricultural services and benefits.

In a post on social media platform X, Sarma stated that more than 12 lakh farmers across 31 districts of Assam have been enrolled under AgriStack, a digital platform aimed at creating a comprehensive database of farmers and agricultural land holdings.

"Farmer welfare is a key pillar of our Double Engine Govt's developmental agenda. In Assam, we've enrolled 12 lakh+ farmers in 31 districts in #AgriStack, from where farmers get easier access to cheaper credit, higher-quality farm inputs and easy access to markets," the Chief Minister wrote.

According to information shared by Sarma, AgriStack serves as a unified digital infrastructure for agriculture and creates a unique Aadhaar-linked Farmer ID for every registered farmer. The platform dynamically maps farmers with their farmland plots and crop-related data, enabling more efficient delivery of government services and agricultural support.

The initiative is expected to help farmers access institutional credit at lower costs, obtain quality agricultural inputs and connect more effectively with markets.

Officials believe the digital ecosystem will also enhance transparency and streamline the implementation of various welfare schemes targeted at the farming community.

The AgriStack programme is part of the Centre's broader effort to modernise agriculture through technology-driven solutions. By integrating land records, crop information and farmer databases, the platform seeks to facilitate better planning, targeted interventions and improved service delivery.

Assam has been among the states actively implementing the initiative, with the government undertaking extensive enrolment drives across districts. The state administration has maintained that digital agriculture platforms will play a crucial role in increasing productivity, reducing inefficiencies and improving farmers' incomes.

The Chief Minister's remarks come amid ongoing efforts by both the Centre and the Assam government to strengthen the agricultural sector through digital governance, infrastructure development and direct benefit delivery mechanisms aimed at enhancing the welfare of farmers.

Finally some real digital push for agriculture! As someone from Assam, I know how much our farmers struggle with middlemen and lack of market access. This Aadhaar-linked Farmer ID could be a game changer if they actually use the data to provide direct subsidies and better prices. Hoping for the best 🤞

Interesting to see how India is digitizing agriculture. I work in agri-tech in the US and similar platforms exist here. The key is making sure the data is accurate and updated regularly. But 12 lakh farmers in 31 districts is impressive for a state like Assam. Would love to see the long-term results.

Great initiative but I have one concern - we need to ensure this doesn't become another data collection exercise without real benefits. Farmers need tangible outcomes like cheaper loans and fair prices, not just digital IDs. Let's hope the double engine government delivers on its promises this time.

Being from a farming family in Assam, I can tell you this is much needed. Our farmers are still using traditional methods and getting exploited by middlemen. If AgriStack actually connects them directly to buyers and banks, it'll be revolutionary. But please include Assamese language interface too 🙏

As someone who moved from Assam to the UK, I'm happy to see such digital initiatives. But I wonder about flood-prone areas - how will they maintain land records when boundaries change every monsoon? Hope the system accommodates such challenges unique to Assam. Good start nonetheless.
