"Oppn operate solely on lies, lack any vision": Rajasthan CM defends Yamuna Water Agreement with Haryana

Jaipur, June 30

Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma on Tuesday hailed the signing of the long-pending Yamuna Water Agreement with Haryana, while also launching a sharp attack on the opposition and asserting that they have "nothing substantial to say" and "lack any vision".

The Chief Minister also praised the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for accomplishing the promises.

Speaking to ANI on the water-sharing agreement signed between Haryana and Rajasthan on Monday, CM Sharma said, "This project had been stalled for a very long time. The people of Rajasthan had been eagerly awaiting it. This project has now become a reality under the leadership of our Prime Minister Narendra Modi. It can certainly be said that this will prove to be a boon. Access to Yamuna water was a critical need. The people of Rajasthan deeply understand the importance of water."

"I once again congratulate Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Union Jal Shakti Minister C R Patil and Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini for accomplishing this task. The opposition has nothing substantial to say. They have no achievements or genuine issues to speak of. They operate solely on lies. The opposition lacks any vision," he said.

Further, a felicitation ceremony was held at the Rajasthan Bharatiya Janata Party headquarters for Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma, who arrived in Jaipur after signing the Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) regarding the Yamuna water pact in Delhi on Monday.

BJP State President Madan Rathore, Deputy Chief Minister Premchand Bairwa, several government ministers, and BJP office-bearers were present.

This comes after Rajasthan and Haryana on Monday signed the long-awaited Yamuna Water Agreement in New Delhi, ending a three-decade-long deadlock and paving the way for the implementation of a Rs 34,102 crore water infrastructure project aimed at redefining the water landscape of Rajasthan.

The agreement was signed in the presence of Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah, Union Jal Shakti Minister C R Patil, Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini and senior officials from the Centre and both state governments.

The project will transport Rajasthan's allocated share of 577 million cubic metres (MCM) of Yamuna water from the Hathnikund Barrage in Haryana to the Hansiawas Reservoir in Churu district through a 295.5-kilometre underground pipeline network.

The project will comprise three pipelines, each measuring 3.6 metres in diameter, along with an inspection motorway, artificial reservoirs and a modern digital water management system. The project also includes provisions to supply drinking water to ten locations in Haryana.

Water projects are always welcome but I hope the environmental impact on Haryana's side is properly assessed. Three pipelines 3.6m each and hundreds of kilometers long... that's a massive infrastructure project. Let's hope we don't end up with cost overruns and delays like many other mega projects in the country.

As someone living in the US but with family in Rajasthan, this is heartening. My uncle's village in Churu is always struggling for water. 577 million cubic meters - that's no small amount. But will the underground pipeline really work without leaks? India's track record with water infrastructure is mixed. Still, hopeful this time it's different. 🙏

Opposition "lacks vision" - true, but CM sahab should also acknowledge that previous governments also tried and failed due to Haryana's resistance. Let's not make this purely political. Credit to everyone who worked across party lines finally. The real test will be implementation and maintenance of this Rs 34,000 crore project. Let's hope it benefits the common farmer and not just contractors.
