New Delhi, June 30

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Tuesday completed the formalities under the Election Commission of India's Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls by submitting the enumeration form for herself and her family, while urging all eligible electors in the national capital to participate in the ongoing exercise.

According to the Chief Minister's Office (CMO)'s statement, CM Gupta appealed to voters to accurately fill their Enumeration Forms and submit them to their respective Booth Level Officers (BLOs) within the prescribed timeline.

"Chief Minister Smt. Rekha Gupta today completed the formalities under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) by submitting the Enumeration Form for herself and her family. She appealed to all eligible electors in Delhi to participate in the ongoing revision process by filling their Enumeration Forms accurately and submitting them to their respective Booth Level Officers (BLOs) within the prescribed timeline," Delhi CMO's X post read.

The SIR of electoral rolls commenced in New Delhi on Tuesday as part of the EC's nationwide exercise aimed at ensuring that "no eligible citizen is left out while no ineligible person is included in the electoral roll."

According to an official release from the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Delhi, Booth Level Officers will conduct house-to-house visits from June 30 to July 29 to distribute and collect Enumeration Forms from existing electors. Draft electoral rolls will be published on August 5, followed by a claims and objections period till September 4. The final electoral roll is scheduled to be published on October 7.

The CEO's office said every existing elector whose name already appears in the electoral roll will receive an Enumeration Form through the BLO. If a house is found locked during the visit, the BLO will leave the form and make at least three visits to collect the completed document.

The release said no documents are required to be submitted along with the Enumeration Form. Electors can also complete the process online through the Election Commission's voter services portal, while assistance is available through the voter helpline number 1950, the "Book-A-Call" facility for contacting BLOs, and voter help centres established across all district headquarters and Assembly constituencies in Delhi.

The CEO's office further stated that Delhi's electoral roll currently comprises 1,45,10,298 electors, including 77,11,132 male voters, 67,98,142 female voters and 1,024 third-gender voters, spread across 13,033 polling stations.

As per the EC's notified schedule, the revision exercise is intended to verify the eligibility of voters in accordance with Article 326 of the Constitution and the provisions of the Representation of the People Act, 1950.

Finally some proactive work on electoral rolls! But 1.45 crore voters in Delhi? I remember it was around 1.4 crore last time. This revision needs to be thorough - especially removing duplicate entries and deceased persons. My father passed away two years ago and his name still shows on the voter list even after we informed the BLO. Hope this SIR actually cleans up the rolls properly.

As someone who moved to Delhi from the UK for work, I appreciate the transparency in the process. The online portal and helpline number make it easy for newcomers like me. I just submitted my form online last week - took 10 minutes. The BLO called to confirm next day. Very efficient compared to what I've heard about previous drives. Hope this sets a precedent for other states too!

Very good move by the Chief Minister. But I have one concern - the timeline is too tight. July 29 to collect forms, then only August 5 for draft publication? And claims only till September 4? Many people in my society didn't even know about this drive. The awareness campaign needs to be stronger. Put up posters in metro stations, auto rickshaws, WhatsApp forwards... abhi toh sirf news mein aaya hai. Common aadmi ko kya pata?

Important step for democracy! But I wish they would also focus on youth enrollment. So many 18-20 year olds in my college don't even have voter IDs. The SIR should have special drives in colleges and universities. Delhi University alone has lakhs of students who could be first-time voters. CM Gupta should also visit campuses to encourage registration. Still, better late than never! 👍
