Delhi: PWD reviews major infrastructure projects; pushes village connectivity and traffic relief measures

A high-level meeting was held on Monday at the Delhi Secretariat with MLAs and Public Works Department officials to review major infrastructure projects aimed at improving road connectivity and easing traffic congestion in Outer and rural parts of Delhi. Local representatives participated in the session to share key constituency requirements and offer planning inputs.
During the meeting, Bawana MLA and Delhi Minister Ravinder Indraj Singh raised key proposals regarding two major infrastructure initiatives: an elevated corridor over the auxiliary drainage channel in Bawana and the 11.70-km-long Kanjhawala-Mangolpuri Elevated Corridor. The 11.70-km stretch is designed to relieve severe traffic congestion on major arteries across West and North-West Delhi while facilitating smoother daily travel for commuters.
Emphasising that Bawana comprises numerous villages and a substantial rural population, Singh stated that locals' needs must remain central to the planning of major public works. He suggested incorporating dedicated entry and exit points for surrounding villages into the elevated corridor design, along with enhanced pedestrian facilities, robust traffic safety measures, and seamless local connectivity.
To prevent severe disruption to daily travel, the Minister advocated for a phased construction strategy. He noted that the infrastructure framework should simultaneously serve main corridor traffic and residents of adjoining villages.
Furthermore, Singh called for a comprehensive capacity and future-traffic assessment for the corridor to account for expected vehicular growth in the coming years. He remarked that rural belts, including Bawana and Kanjhawala, have long awaited upgraded road networks, noting that these projects are essential for balanced regional development.
Singh directed PWD officials to incorporate ground realities and suggestions from local elected representatives while drafting and finalising the Detailed Project Report (DPR). He stressed that tailoring infrastructure planning to local requirements will ensure long-term benefits for the residents of Bawana and the broader Outer Delhi area.
