New Delhi, July 3

Delhi Lieutenant Governor T.S. Sandhu on Friday chaired the meeting of the Advisory Council of the Delhi Development Authority to review the progress on the upcoming Master Plan and sustainable development, an official said.

L-G Sandhu, who is also the Chairman of the DDA, stressed technology-driven solutions to address the national capital's evolving urban challenges.

In a message on X, the L-G informed that the key meeting of the DDA was attended by senior officials and Members of Parliament Ramvir Singh Bidhuri and Sudhanshu Trivedi.

Advocating a tough approach against illegal constructions, L-G Sandhu wrote on X, "Directed @official_dda to maintain zero tolerance against illegal encroachments and unauthorised constructions by leveraging technology for real-time monitoring of land parcels and buildings, enabling prompt detection and swift enforcement."

"Reiterated that a collaborative, transparent, and technology-driven approach remains the cornerstone of addressing Delhi's evolving urban challenges. Reaffirmed our commitment to building a sustainable, resilient, and liveable #ViksitDilli," he said.

The Lieutenant Governor said on X, "Chaired the meeting of the Advisory Council of @official_dda today, in the presence of Hon'ble MPs Shri @RamvirBidhuriand Shri@SudhanshuTrivedi, to review the roadmap for sustainable urban development in the National Capital."

We held wide-ranging deliberations on the upcoming Master Plan of Delhi, strengthening civic and institutional frameworks, and ensuring planned, inclusive, and future-ready growth for the city, he said in his message on social media.

Earlier on Thursday, the Lieutenant Governor shared information about his interaction with visiting students from Oman.

"Delighted to interact with a bright group of young students from Oman, winners of the Sastra Pratibha Contest organised by Vijnana Bharati at IIT Gandhinagar. It was encouraging to witness their scientific curiosity, spirit of inquiry, and eagerness to learn," said L-G Sandhu.

"Nurturing scientific temper and analytical thinking among young minds is vital to building a strong foundation for research, innovation, and a future-ready society. I commend the dedicated efforts of Vijnana Bharati in inspiring the next generation of young innovators while connecting them with India's rich scientific heritage. My best wishes to all the winners for their future academic journey and scientific pursuits," he said.

L-G sahab is right to focus on master planning and zero tolerance for illegal construction. But let's be real—how many times have we heard similar promises? DDA's track record on public consultation is poor. The 'Viksit Delhi' vision must include affordable housing for the poor, not just fancy tech solutions. Also, why no mention of waterlogging during monsoon? That's the biggest urban challenge right now! 🌧️

Interesting to see Indian officials talking about technology-driven solutions for urban planning. I work in smart city projects back in the US, and Delhi's challenges are enormous—population density, traffic, pollution. The real-time monitoring for land parcels could be a game-changer if implemented properly. What impressed me was the emphasis on both sustainability and resilience. Hope this leads to actual changes on ground, not just another committee meeting.

As a resident of East Delhi, I welcome the focus on sustainable development, but I'm skeptical. My locality has illegal colonies that have existed for decades—will DDA actually demolish them without providing alternatives? The master plan must balance development with people's livelihoods. Also, why are we only hearing about 'zero tolerance' now? The previous master plan had similar promises, and little changed. 🤔

The meeting's highlight for me was the interaction with Omani students at IIT Gandhinagar. Nurturing scientific temper is crucial for a future-ready India. The 'Sastra Pratibha Contest' seems like a great initiative by Vijnana Bharati to connect young minds with India's scientific heritage. 🇮🇳 Putting science at the center of development—that's the kind of thinking we need for Viksit Delhi as well.
