Robot Joins Firefighters to Battle Midnight Blaze in Rangareddy Store

A major fire at a multi-story cloth store in Bandlaguda Jagir was contained using a combination of four fire engines and a specialized firefighting robot. The operation, which lasted nearly three hours after a distress call at 2:58 AM, resulted in no injuries or casualties. Officials highlighted the tactical use of the robot to enter high-risk zones with toxic smoke and potential backdrafts, which are common in such blazes. The remotely controlled unit from the Madhapur fire station successfully doused the source flames, protecting human crews from extreme heat and structural dangers.

High-tech response: Robot, 4 fire engines contain midnight fire in Rangareddy

A firefighting robot assisted crews to control a dangerous midnight fire at a cloth store in Bandlaguda Jagir, preventing injuries with high-tech intervention.

An operation in Bandlaguda Jagir highlighted a significant shift in how urban fires are being managed in Telangana, specifically through the use of specialised technology to protect human firefighters.

In a "high-tech" intervention, a midnight fire that broke out at a cloth store in Bandlaguda Jagir in Rangareddy district was brought under control by firefighters using four fire engines and a robot after nearly three hours of firefighting operations, with no injuries or casualties reported.

The fire broke out at a G+3 floor building housing a cloth store, opposite Ammavari Temple, with the blaze engulfing the ground plus two upper floors.

Assistant District Fire Officer, Madhapur, Govardhan Reddy said the control room received the distress call at 2:58 AM, following which four vehicles along with a robot were immediately dispatched to the site.

"We received a call to the control room at 2:58 in the morning. Immediately, about four vehicles, along with a robot, went there and controlled the fire after firefighting for almost three hours. Fire has been doused completely. There are no injuries and no casualties," Reddy told ANI.

These robots are increasingly used in India for specific tactical reasons: Cloth stores are notorious for "backdrafts" and thick, toxic smoke from synthetic fabrics. The robot can enter these high-heat zones where it might be too dangerous for humans.

Controlled remotely, the robot can manoeuvre into tight spaces within the building to douse flames at the source without the risk of structural collapse affecting a human crew.

This particular unit was dispatched from the Madhapur fire station, which serves as a tech-forward hub for the Hyderabad/Rangareddy region.

Impressive response time and use of technology. No casualties is the best news. Shows how strategic investment in emergency services pays off. Well done to the Madhapur team!

Good step, but a question: how many such robots does Telangana have? One for the entire Hyderabad/Rangareddy region? What if fires break out in two places at once? We need scale, not just showpiece tech.

Thank God it was controlled and no one was hurt. These old market buildings often have faulty wiring and no fire safety. The shop owners also need to be more responsible. The robot is great, but prevention is better!

Hyderabad leading the way in smart city initiatives! 👏 From IT to disaster management, this is the kind of innovation we need. Hope other states take note and invest in similar modern equipment.

The smoke from synthetic clothes is extremely toxic. Using a robot to go into that environment is not just about heat, it's about saving firefighters from long-term health issues. A very thoughtful application of technology.
