Telangana CM reviews Yadagirigutta Temple development; directs adoption of Tirumala model for guest houses

Hyderabad, June 30

Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy on Tuesday reviewed the development of the Yadagirigutta Temple at the Bodhi Pavilion in the Dr MCR Human Resource Development Institute and directed officials to adopt the Tirumala model for the construction of guest houses and frame a comprehensive land allocation policy for the temple.

The review meeting was attended by Rajya Sabha member Vem Narender Reddy, MPs Chamala Kiran Kumar Reddy and Kunduru Raghuveer Reddy, Government Whip Beerla Ilaiah, and MLA Kumbham Anil Kumar Reddy.

Senior officials, including Government Special Secretary Jayesh Ranjan, Endowments Department Principal Secretary Shailaja Ramaiyer, Endowments Commissioner M. Hanumantha Rao, Finance Department Principal Secretary Sandeep Kumar Sultania, CMO Secretary Manick Raj, CMO Officer on Special Duty (OSD) Vemula Srinivasulu, along with senior officials from Yadadri district and the temple administration, also attended the meeting.

During the review, the Chief Minister issued a series of directions aimed at strengthening the temple's infrastructure, land management and tourism potential.

"Land should be allocated to the Hare Rama Hare Krishna Foundation in Yadagirigutta according to the market rate. A policy must be formulated regarding the allocation of land to various mutts. A policy with clear guidelines must be prepared for the allocation of land to caste associations. The land ownership rights must strictly remain with the Temple," CM Revanth Reddy said.

The Chief Minister Revanth Reddy further stated, "The policy followed by Tirumala regarding land allocation should be studied. A list must be prepared of those who have come forward to construct guest houses on the hillock (Gutta). Permissions for the construction of guest houses should be granted in a phased manner. The Tirumala model should be adopted for the construction of guest houses."

He also directed that funds must be sanctioned immediately for land acquisition.

"The report submitted by the engineers' committee on the construction of the Yadagirigutta temple must be studied, and a follow-up report must be submitted within a week. A tourism circuit should be established under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model," he added.

Earlier today, Prominent industrialist and Bharti Enterprises Chairman Sunil Bharti Mittal paid a courtesy call on Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy at the Bodhi Pavilion in MCRHRD. Chief Secretary Ramakrishna Rao participated in the meeting.

Finally some focus on Yadagirigutta! It's about time. The temple is so ancient and has immense potential. I hope the land allocation policy is transparent and not just another way to give away prime land to politically connected people. Let's see what they actually implement.

As someone who visited Yadagirigutta last year, I can say the infrastructure there is really lacking. The Tirumala model makes sense - they manage huge pilgrim crowds so well. I hope they also focus on clean drinking water and proper waste management. Good to see development plans.

A word of caution - please don't turn Yadagirigutta into another commercial hub like some other places. The Tirumala model is good for guest houses but we need strict guidelines. Also, allocating land to Hare Rama Hare Krishna foundation at market rate is fair, but what about other organizations? Need complete transparency in this process.

I'm glad to see the state government taking interest in temple development. The tourism circuit under PPP model sounds promising - could boost local economy and create jobs. But I hope they also involve local communities in decision making. Yadagirigutta is not just a temple, it's part of our heritage that needs careful preservation.

The focus on land acquisition fund is crucial. Many temple projects get stuck because of land disputes. I also appreciate that they want to keep ownership rights with the temple. But I'm a bit skeptical about allocating land to caste associations - that could create complications. Let's hope the policy is well thought out. 🤞
