Henry Cavill, Kevin Hart join forces for streaming spy comedy
Los Angeles, June 6
Hollywood star Henry Cavill is all set to share the screen with Kevin Hart in a new action comedy. Henry Cavill and Kevin star as rival spies who cross paths in a Lamaze class when their wives become fast friends.
Shawn Levy's 21 Laps and Ryan Reynolds' Maximum Effort are producing the untitled film, with McG directing. The script was written by Adam and Aaron Nee, whose latest film 'Masters of the Universe', is now playing in theaters, and Jonathan Tropper. The project is based on a short story by Sean Lewis, reports 'Variety'.
The synopsis reads, "Their double lives collide in unexpectedly hilarious and dangerous ways forcing the two men to reluctantly become confidantes and partners on the road to fatherhood".
In addition to starring in the film, Hart also produces via his Hartbeat banner, along with Luke Kelly-Clyne and Bryan Smiley.
As per 'Variety', Levy, Dan Levine and Emily Morris produce for 21 Laps alongside Reynolds, George Dewey and Patrick Gooing for Maximum Effort. Henry Cavill next stars in the 'Highlander' reboot, directed by Chad Stahelski, who is known for 'John Wick' and Rawson Marshall Thurber's both for Amazon MGM Studios.
But the actor also has a long history with Netflix, where he starred in the streamer's uber-popular series, 'The Witcher', and opposite Millie Bobby Brown in the 'Enola Holmes' movies. The Wrap first reported news of his casting.
Kevin Hart has also enjoyed a prolific partnership with Netflix, with popular films including the heist thriller'Lift', the buddy comedy 'Me Time', the action-comedy 'The Man From Toronto' and family drama 'Fatherhood', which was based on a true story.
Last month, Kevin Hart was the target of Netflix's live comedy roast, and his next comedy, '72 Hours', debuts on the streamer on July 24, 2026.

Another streaming spy film? Bollywood already does this trope so well—like 'War' with Hrithik and Tiger. But I'm curious how Hollywood handles it with a comedic twist. The synopsis sounds fun, but I hope it's not just a generic action comedy. McG directing gives me 'Charlie's Angels' vibes—good but not great. We'll see...
Kevin Hart's career is on fire—Netflix is basically his second home now. But I hope this film doesn't rely too much on his typical loud comedy. Cavill is better suited for serious roles like 'The Witcher' or 'Superman'. The 'road to fatherhood' angle could bring some heart, which is rare in spy films. Let's hope it's not just 'Central Intelligence' part 2.
As a mom who took Lamaze classes, I'm cracking up at the premise! 😂 The thought of two secret agents trying to breathe through contractions while hiding their identities is hilarious. Ryan Reynolds producing is a plus—his comedic timing is top-notch. Hope the Nee brothers bring the same energy from 'Masters of the Universe' to this.
Honestly, I'm tired of Hollywood recycling the 'spies with family problems' formula. But if anyone can make it work, it's McG—remember 'Charlie's Angels'? That was fun. Cavill and Hart are both box office draws here in India too, so this will probably do well on Netflix. Just don't expect an Oscar, expect pure entertainment. Good for a Friday night with popcorn! 🍿
