Benedict Cumberbatch to reprise his role in Judith Kerr's picture books based animation special 'Mog's Bad Thing'

Washington DC, June 22

Benedict Cumberbatch and Claire Foy are returning to the world of Judith Kerr's 'Mog' picture books for an animated special 'Mog's Bad Thing,' reported Variety.

According to the outlet, Cumberbatch will reprise his role as Mr Thomas opposite Foy as Mrs Thomas, while Adjoa Andoh also returns as the narrator alongside Amelie Law as Debbie and Teddy Skelton as Nicky.

The cast, who previously appeared together in the animated special 'Mog's Christmas,' will be joined this time by John Thomson as Mr Bunce, Katherine Parkinson as Mrs Ramsbottom, Mawaan Rizwan as Ali and Amelia Theodorou as Amy.

'Mog's Bad Thing,' is directed by Robin Shaw and produced by Lupus Films, and will once again follow Mog, the Thomas family tabby cat, as she finds herself in big trouble.

"The family are hosting a cat show in their garden which should be Mog's chance to shine, but in all the excitement she does a 'bad thing' which means she hides in the attic feeling sorry for herself and misses the start of the show. Can Mog find a way to leave her hiding place, make her family proud and save the day?" reads the synopsis of the film as quoted by Variety.

"Mog's Bad Thing" is written by Joanna Harrison based on Kerr's books, which have been translated into 24 languages and sold over 4 million copies worldwide. There are 17 books in the "Mog" series, which was inspired by Kerr's own family cat.

Ruth Fielding and Camilla Deakin produce for Lupus Films. The animated special was commissioned for Channel 4 by Gwawr Lloyd, interim head of drama.

Serious Kids is set to distribute 'Mog' for theatrical and TV worldwide, outside of the U.K. Theatrical distribution will be announced in due course.

I'm a teacher in Mumbai and we read 'Mog's Christmas' to our kindergarten class last December. The kids were absolutely charmed! So happy they're making another one. The cat show premise sounds adorable - perfect for teaching little ones about responsibility and forgiveness. Western animation for children often has such gentle storytelling.

My British grandmother used to read me Mog books when I visited London as a child. Now living in Bangalore, I'm thrilled this nostalgia will be available internationally. The cast is stellar - Claire Foy and Cumberbatch together again! Hope they release it on Netflix or Prime soon. 🤞

While I appreciate the cultural value, couldn't we have more Indian animation projects on global platforms? We have Amar Chitra Katha, Panchatantra, Tenali Raman - so many wonderful children's stories that deserve similar high-quality production. That said, Mog is a lovely series and I'm sure Indian families with young children will enjoy this. 🇮🇳✨

My niece in Delhi is obsessed with Mog! She has all the books and watches the Christmas special on repeat. This new one about a cat show sounds brilliant - just hope the "bad thing" isn't too scary for sensitive kids. The voice cast is incredible though. Cumberbatch + Foy = pure class.

Does anyone know if this will have Hindi or Tamil dubbing? My kids prefer watching in local languages. The Mog books are wonderful but language can be a barrier for very young Indian readers. Still, a quality production is always welcome - children everywhere deserve beautiful stories beautifully told. 🎬
