Doda Deputy Commissioner Harvinder Singh provided an update on the Doda road accident incident, which resulted in the death of 10 army personnel on Thursday.

Speaking to reporters, the Deputy Commissioner of Doda stated that the presence of snow on the Bhaderwah-Chamba road was a primary cause behind this tragic accident.

He stated that out of the 11 injured jawans, ten have been airlifted to the Command Hospital in Udhampur for treatment. The DC of Doda further noted that the mortal remains of the deceased soldiers have been sent to their families.

"A tragic accident took place on the Bhaderwah-Chamba road. A total of 10 jawans have lost their lives. Out of the 11 injured jawans, 10 seriously injured jawans have been airlifted to Command Hospital Udhampur. The bodies of the deceased soldiers are being dispatched to their families. According to the preliminary report, the road accident took place because there was snow on the road," said Singh.

Earlier, an Army vehicle in Jammu and Kashmir's Doda district met with an accident, resulting in the deaths of ten personnel. An equal number of personnel sustained injuries during the mishap.The incident occurred in the Khanni Top area of Bhaderwah, prompting immediate rescue and relief operations, said official sources.

According to the White Knight Corps, the Army vehicle carrying troops for an operation slipped off the road while navigating treacherous terrain in bad weather.

There are multiple casualties, including fatal. The injured have been evacuated for further treatment," said White Knight Corps.

Soon after the accident, many political leaders condoled the death of 10 army personnel in the Doda road accident. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh expressed grief over the tragic road accident.

In a post on X, Singh said, "Deeply saddened by the tragic road accident in Doda in which we lost our 10 brave soldiers of the Indian Army. My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. The injured soldiers are receiving medical care and all necessary directions have been given to ensure the best possible treatment. The nation stands with our Armed Forces and their families in this difficult hour."

Along with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah also expressed profound grief over the tragedy. The Chief Minister conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the families of the fallen soldiers and wished a speedy recovery to those who sustained injuries in the mishap.

"Chief Minister has expressed deep grief over the tragic accident involving an Army vehicle at Khannitop on the Bhaderwah-Chamba road. He conveyed heartfelt condolences to the families of the soldiers who lost their lives and wished a speedy recovery to those injured, lauding the swift rescue and evacuation efforts," the CMO post read.

Snow on the road is a known hazard in those areas. While it's a primary cause, we must ask if more could be done for road safety and vehicle maintenance for our troops in such terrains. A respectful question, not blame.
