11 test positive in Chandigarh, highest single-day spike

Eleven more people tested positive for coronavirus in Chandigarh on Tuesday, the highest single-day spike, taking the total number of cases in the Union Territory to 56.

In the last 24 hours, 20 cases have been reported.

Five new cases, including two women in their late twenties, were reported from Sector 30 from where nine cases have been reported so far, officials said.

Six cases were reported from the Bapu Dham colony; all are contacts of two positive cases.

Out of the 56 patients, 17 have been cured and discharged. At present, the city has 39 active cases, including seven from other states.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has spoken to Chandigarh Administrator V.P. Singh Badnore over phone and enquired about the virus situation.
