Patna, Dec 02 : The opening day of the winter session of Bihar Legislature was adjourned for the day today after paying obituary references and taking up other business of the House.
In their welcome address, Speaker of the Assembly Udai Narayan Choudhary and chairman of the state Legislative Council (acting) Prof Arun Kumar said several issues related to the common people would be discussed in the House and appealed to the members to cooperate in maintaining the dignity of the House.
They hoped that the members would play constructive role in discharging the business of the House.
Mr Choudhary constituted the business advisory committee and announced the names of Ms Renu Devi, Mr Amerandra Pratap Singh, Mr Abdul Bari Siddiqui, Mr Pashupati Kumar Paras and Mr Ramdeo Rai as presiding officers for the winter session for the Lower House.
Later both the Houses observed two-minute silence and paid tribute to the departed souls, inclduing former Prime Minister V P Singh, former Speaker S C Jha, MLC Sharda Prasad Singh and several other former Legislators who passed away recently.
Glowing tributes were also paid in the Upper House to those killed in the terrorist attacks in Mumbai, in the catastrophic floods caused by the river Kosi in North Bihar and to the former chief justice (acting) of Patna High Court Sarwar Ali.
The Lower House, however, did not pay homage to the flood victims and those killed in the terrorist attacks in Mumbai.
RJD member in the state Assembly Shyam Rajak tried to draw the attention of the Speaker and suggested to pay homage to those killed in the terrorist attacks in Mumbai, however, his advice was ignored.
