Lucknow, Dec 2 : Uttar Pradesh government has transferred four senior Indian Police Services (IPS) officials including reinstating two suspended officers in connection with the Azamgarh violence during the visit of BJP MP Yogi Adityanath on September 7.
According to an official statement, Inspector General of police (law and order) at the police headquarters Bhanu Pratap Singh has been shifted to IG (Kanpur zone) while Praveen Singh who was earlier transferred to IG (Kanpur zone) from Varanasi zone has been now appointed as IG (PAC) Lucknow.
DIG Abhimanyu Tripathi and SP Vijay Kumar Garg, who were suspended in September have been reinstated and appointed as DIG (CB-CID), Lucknow and Commandant PAC Meerut respectively.
Mr Tripathi, the then DIG of Azamgarh range and Mr Gagrh, SP Azamgarh were suspended in September after a violence during the visit of firebrand BJP MP from Gorakhpur Yogi Adityanath in the city on September 7. One person was killed and half-a-dozen people were injured in violence and arson when the cavalcade of the BJP MP passed through a minority dominated locality in the city.
