Terror mail to Japanese embassy a hoax: Delhi Police

New Delhi, July 31 : Delhi Police suspected a frustrated man behind an email sent to the Japanese embassy Wednesday that threatened to carry out blasts in a popular shopping place here.

“The embassy has forwarded an email to us. It says that after the serial blasts in Bangalore and Ahmedabad the next target will be Delhi's Sarojini Nagar market,” a senior Delhi Police official told IANS.

“But our initial investigation suggests that it is the job of a psychic man, who was denied visa (by the embassy). We have almost identified him and he would be arrested soon,” the official added.

The email threat was sent to the embassy in the afternoon.

The official said the Special Cell, an expert wing to combat terrorism, was studying the email. “There is nothing to worry and all reports related to increased security at the embassy are rubbish,” the official added.

The police said no case was registered till late Wednesday.

On Friday Bangalore was targeted with eight blasts which killed one woman and injured seven people. The next day Ahmedabad was rocked with 21 coordinated blasts, which claimed 52 lives and injured at least 200 people.

Since Sunday, metros across the nation have reported a large number of hoax calls even as police found and defused 23 bombs in Surat.

The Sarojini Nagar market was targeted by terrorists when it was hit by one of the three blasts Oct 29, 2005, killing at least 50 people.
