La Paz (Bolivia), July 27 : The Bolivian government will create a security force in the Amazon to check smuggling of timber to Peru and Brazil, Spain's EFE news agency reported.
The Amazon command will be deployed in Beni and Pando provinces bordering Peru and Brazil, Juan Ramon Quintana, presidential chief of staff, said, according to the report Saturday.
"We're not going to allow the plundering of our natural resources and the armed forces will play a central role to check this," Quintana said.
Additional military posts will also be established on the borders, the official said. The posts will be equipped with satellite technology.
