Canara Bank to open 104 branches
Tiruchirapalli, Nov 8 : The Canara Bank will open 104 new branches in the country on November 19, commemorating the birth anniversaries of its founder Ammembal Subba Rao and late Prime Minister Ms Indira Gandhi, according to bank Chairman and Managing Director A C Mahajan.
Talking to newspersons after the bank's board meeting here last night, he said the bank had already opened 128 new branches, including three overseas branches in London, Hong Kong, Shanghai (China) and an offshore banking unit at Noida in Uttar Pradesh, reaching its total number of braches to 2806 as on September this year.
It was also planning to recruit 1000 Junior Assistants and 610 Officers before the end of the current fiscal, he said.
At the end of the quarter-two ended on Septemer 30, the bank has achieved a net profit of Rs 911 crore, registering a 72 per cent growth, compared to Rs 529 crore recorded in the corresponding quarter in the last fiscal.
The bank has also extended a loan assistance of Rs 13,304 crore to the women Self Helf Groups as on June 31, this year, he said.
Stating that there was no idea to increase the number of ATMs from the existing 2000 ATMs, he said the ban's main concern was to improve the services of the existing ATMs.
