Ten injured as police lathicharges mob
Patna, Nov 07 : Ten people, including three policemen, were injured today when a clash erupted between the security personnel and an unruly mob at Akhara Muhalla here.
Inspector General of Police, Patna Range, PN Roy said the clash occurred after police resorted to lathicharge to ward off several hundred people who were protesting against the murder of a local businessman since last night and demanding immediate arrest of the assailants.
The agitators also pelted stones on running vehicles and set up road blockade in the area causing traffic congestion following which the police had to resort to lathicharge to clear the area.
However, the mob instead attacked the police with brickbats and other missiles, injuring three policemen, all of whom were rushed to a local hospital.
Seven others also sustained injuries during the brickbatting and subsequent police baton charge.
The situation was, however, brought under control after a big contingent of police force reached the spot.
Senior police officials also rushed to the spot to prevent further escalation of violence. They were still camping in the area.
A gang of armed miscreants shot dead local businessman Shamsher Alam last night. Though a case had been lodged in the local police station, none was arrested so far.
