UDF will emerge victorious in by-polls : Muraleedharan
Kochi, Nov 4 : With high hopes of re-entry into the Congress, former KPCC President K Muraleedharan today said the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) would record thumping wins in the November 7 by-elections in Kannur, Ernakulam and Alappuzha.
Speaking to reporters here today, Mr Muraleedhran said, ''those who had left NCP along with me, will be campaigning for the UDF in coming by-elections.'' He said the ''election wave'' in favour UDF would continue in the bypolls as the CPI (M)-led Left Democratic Front (LDF) government in the state was a failure.
'' The law and order situation is in shambles, health sector is reeling under bad management and the government is trying to curb freedom of the press,'' he alleged.
Commenting on the alleged widespread rigging of voters' list in Kannur, Mr Muraleedharan, son of veteran Congress leader and former Chief Minister K Karunakaran, said, ''the byelection in Kannur is not between UDF and LDF, but between original and bogus voters.'' Alleging that the Marxist party was facing an erosion of values, he said the criticism of the LDF against the ASEAN free trade agreement were 'totally baseless'.
Asked about the prospects of his return to the Congress party, Mr Muraleedharan said, ''There were some obstacles, but after the by-elections an application would be moved in this regard.'' Notably, the Congress state leadership had expressed disfavour in giving party memebership to Mr Muraleedharan, who had been suspended for six years in 2005.
