PM orders probe into Chandigarh death incident

New Delhi, Nov 4 : Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has ordered an inquiry into the incident involving the death of a 32-year-old man during his official visit to Chandigarh yesterday.

The family of the dead man complained that he was not extended timely medical treatment at a hospital because of the security during the Prime Minister's visit to the city.

PMO sources today said Dr Singh was ''saddened'' at the incident involving the death of the man, identified as SP Varma.

They said the Prime Minister had also written a letter to the family of the deceased expressing his anguish over the death.

He had sought a report from the PGI authorities last night itself.

The family of Verma alleged that it took them almost an hour-and- a-half to reach the emergency room of the hospital because the security personnel denied them entry as the Prime Minister was attending a function inside the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Research.
