NPCC leaders submit Nagaland drought report to Sonia Gandhi
Kohima, Nov 04 : The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) held a meeting with AICC chairperson Sonia Gandhi and submitted assessment reports on Drought Relief Scheme (DRS) for the state.
NPCC sources here today said the team, led by its president KV Pusa and Leader of Opposition in Nagaland Assembly Chingwang Konyak, met Ms Gandhi in New Delhi yesterday and submitted the DRS prepared by Mr Konyak. They apprised her of the drought situation in Nagaland and the immediate need of relief for the affected farmers.
Sources said Ms Gandhi congratulated the NPCC team for working to alleviate the sufferings of the drought-affected people and assured to look into the matter so that the people of the state receive the relief.
Sources also said Ms Gandhi had taken personal initiative in ensuring that the relief actually reaches the people of Nagaland as past records revealed how calamity relief schemes were grossly misused.
''The UPA Government and Congress president would like to see that this time funds reach the targetted people and do not go into the pockets of the handful few who are in power,'' the sources said.
