Sony launches world's lightest notebook; eyes 20 pc mkt share
New Delhi, Nov 3 : Launching 'the world's lightest' and a new range of ultra slim notebooks, consumer electronics maker Sony India today said it eyes to capture a 20 per cent share of India's notebook market which stands at nine lakh units and also plans to invest Rs 200 crore in marketing during this fiscal.
The company's market share in the consumer notebook segment stands between 12 and 15 per cent.
Claimed to be the world's lightest notebook, the Vaio X weighs around 655 grams and is about half an-inch in thickness.
It is priced at Rs 65,000.
The company will invest Rs 15 crore for marketing Vaio X and has roped in Kareena Kapoor as its brand ambassador.
It has also launched Vaio CW at Rs 37,000 and for casual computing, it has introduced Vaio W at Rs 27,000.
During this fiscal, with the aim to increase market share, the consumer electronics maker plans to expand distribution channel network to 1,000 counters across 200 cities from 500 sales counters, Sony India Managing Director Masaru Tamagawa told reporters here.
The company also plans to increase the number of exclusive Vaio shops to 20 counters this year.
Sony India has more than 4,000 dealers and distributors, 240 exclusive outlets and 19 direct branch locations across the country.
