Pachauri, Krishnamurthy conferred with high Japanese honour
New Delhi, Nov 3 : Chairman of the UN body on climate change R K Pachauri was today honoured by Japanese Emperor Akihito with 'Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Star' in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the enhancement of Japan's policy on climate change.
The honour was given to the Indian environmentalist because he played a key role in forging global consensus on the climate change debate, an official release of the Embassy of Japan said here.
Another Indian Dr Venkataraman Krishnamurthy, Chairman of the National Manufacturing Competitiveness Council has also been honoured by the Emperor of Japan. He has been bestowed with 'The Grand Cordon of the Order of the Rissing Sun' for his contribution to the promotion of bilateral economic relations and understanding of Japan in India.
He has served as Secretary to the Ministry of Industry and Chairman and CEO of Maruti Suzuki, and chairman and CEO of the Steel Authority of India.
Dr Krishnamurhty will travel to Japan to receive the honour on November 5.
