Amarinder likely to head Punjab Congress

Faridkot, Nov 3 : The AICC seems to have cleared the decks for the appointment of former chief minister Capt Amrinder Singh as president of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Commttee (PPCC).

Congress sources disclosed here today that announcement in this respect is likely to be made by Congress president Sonia Gandhi in a day or two. The former chief minister is likely to meet Ms Gandhi in Delhi on Thursday, after which a formal announcement of his appointment will be made.

The appointment of Capt singh has already been finalised by Mr Ahmed Patel, political secretary to Ms Gandhi and AICC general secretary and Punjab Congress affairs incharge Mohisna Kidwai.

Capt Singh will replace Mr Mohinder Singh Kaypee, MP from Jalandhar who was given the charge of acting president of the PPCC.

Capt Singh and Mr Kaypee did not get along with each other, with the former prefering to keep away from all PPCC functions that were announced by the latter.
