Mithun becomes favourite hero among MP tribals
Sheopur, MP, Nov 1 : Bollywood cine star Mithun Chakraborty, who earned the nickname 'dancing star' after huge success of 'Disco Dancer', is still enjoying more popularity than other renowned film stars among the tribal folks in this district.
Tribals in this region are regular cine gores and they are particularly interested in Mithun's films. Whenever the actor's film has been shown in this town's cinema hall, a long queue of tribal youth aging between 15 to 35 are seen before the ticket counter and most of the time, 'housefull' board hanged before the counter.
The popularity of the 'tall, dark and handsome' hero, -- who hogged limelight after his award winning performance as a tribal in Mrinal Sen's 'Mrigaya' -- among the tribal youth could be gauged from the fact that they dressed like the hero during the social functions, marriages, tribal fair and other occasions to impress the opposite sex.
''I like Minthun's films 'Cheeta', 'Jalhad', 'Chandal' very much,'' said 60-year-old Ram Kishan Adivasi, who even at this age is an avid fan of the star.
Balu Adivasi said he saw Mithun's films -- Pati Pantni Aur Tabaif, Dance Dance, Chrano Ki Saugandh and Dalal -- more than five times.
Ramesh Adivasi said that while Mithun has been considered number one hero among the tribals, Shakti Kapoor is their favourite villain. Tribals do not know the new heros, heroines much. Rather, they are acquainted with actresses like Rekha, Sridevi, Madhuri Dixit. However, the younger generation know about Karishma Kapoor, Aishwariya Rai, Ajay Devgan, Ameer Khan and Shahrukh Khan.
