Gadget-mad UK families blamed for fuelling obesity epidemic among kids

London, October 25 : A new research has held gadget-mad families responsible for the rise in overweight kids in the UK.

According to the Comet survey, the average British household boasts of two games consoles such as the Wii, 3.4 Tellies, 4.2 Mobile Phones, 3.8 Computers, 1.7 DVD Players, and 1.6 MP3s or iPods.

Experts fear the rise in home technology may create obesity concerns among children who spend most of their time in front of a screen instead of playing outdoors.

'The sheer volume of gadgets and appliances in the typical British home is quite staggering,' News of the World quoted Bill Moir, Head of Marketing at Comet, as saying.

June Sullivan, Chief Executive of the Children's Society, said: 'For many children, particularly in urban areas, there is virtually nothing that encourages them to be active.

'Lots of parents send their children off to their rooms where there is a PlayStation and a TV, and the children become less fit and less inclined to be active.'
