Adampur base prepared for any eventuality with new MiG-29's
Adampur, Punjab, Oct 4 : Indian Air Force is prepared for any unforeseeable eventuality arising out of any circumstance, with Western Command’s Adampur airbase all set to receive the formidable upgraded MiG-29s.
Addressing mediapersons, Air Officer, Commanding Air Force Station, Adampur, H S Arora said the airbase which proved to be the nemesis for Pakistani forces during the 1965 misadventure and which led to the airfield receiving ten Vir Chakras, three Vayu Sena medals and several Vishisht Seva medals, is fully prepared to meet any eventuality.
Though, with the present Pechora guided missile system, the Igle missile defence system and the present set of MiG-23 and MiG-29 aircrafts, the airbase was well entrenched to face any eventuality and could handle any enemy attack with panache, after the upgraded MiG-29s arrive, the airbase would become one of the most potent airbases in the country.
''We are fully geared for any operation, whatsoever,'' he said adding that after the refreshed MiG-29s come, the airbase would become formidable in more respects than one.
''The upgraded MiG-29s, with their advanced avionics and radar capabilities, self-defence and modern weapons system, would give us almost the same leverage as with the Sukhoi-30 aircrafts, though on a smaller scale,''he added.
As one of the foremost airbases, Adampur is all geared to defend the country, its borders and its people with all its might, he opined.
Mr Arora also informed that the ‘Garuda’ Commados stationed here were a tough force capable of multitasking under extreme duress and the dog squad -- both the guarding squad of German Shepherds and the sniffer squad of Labradors were well equipped to handle all situations.
''They are capable of handling all situations arising out of internal circumstances or external factors,''Mr Arora said.
