Voluntary blood donation picks up in Haryana
Chandigarh, Jul 28 : Voluntary blood donation is picking up in Haryana as 1.87 lakh units of blood was collected from voluntary blood donors during the year 2009-10 as against 1.77 lakh units of blood collected from such donors in the financial year 2008-09.
Stating this here today, a spokesman for Health Department said that during the first three months of the current financial year, about 52,000 units of blood had been collected from voluntary blood donors.
He further said 60 blood banks were functioning in the state to provide safe blood to all needy patients. Out of these, 17 were functional in government sector, two in Military Hospitals, one of Red Cross Society and 40 in private sector.
All government sector blood banks had been taken up for modernisation with assistance from National AIDS Control Organization (NACO), he added.
