Srinagar, Dec 7 : At a time when Indian Parliament is discussing issue of women's security, one more alleged sexual harassment case has surfaced and this time a professor of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) has reportedly harassed a Kashmiri female student sexually.

Though Public Relations Officer of the university Dr Rahat Abrar remained tight-lipped over the issue, the university administration while confirming the incident told IBNS that the erring professor has been suspended and a detailed inquiry has been ordered into the matter.

According to reports, a Kashmiri female student of LLM first year registered a complaint with Dean of Law Faculty Professor Iqbal Ali Khan against chairman Law Department Professor Shabir Ahmed, alleging that she was molested by him after he called her into his chamber in context with some fault in her project paper.

The accused teaches Women and Law as well as Criminal Law and Gender Justice at the AMU.

While taking to IBNS AMU Police Station Inspector HR Zaidi said,"Yesterday we received a complaint through University Proctor against the accused. As per the Proctor he sexually harassed a Kashmiri girl at the university."

He refused to give personal details of the victim and said: "We are investigating the matter and we will take action against the accused very soon."

He confirmed that a case has also been registered against the accused at Civil Lines police station FIR No 1268/2013 under section 509,354(A) and 354 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

"The 'tainted' professor had been suspended with immediate effect. It is not for the first time that such allegations have been leveled against him; but in past also an enquiry committee was constituted to probe his conduct," he said, adding that the professor will face the music if proven guilty.
