India to observe 5-day mourning for Mandela

New Delhi, Dec 6 : The Government of India has decided that five days state mourning will be observed from Dec 6 to 10 as a mark of respect to former South African President Nelson R Mandela, who passed away on Thursday.


"During the state mourning, the national flag will be flown at half mast from 6th to 10th December, 2013 throughout the country and there will be no official entertainment," said the Ministry of Home Affairs in a statement.

Nobel peace laureate and iconic anti-apartheid leader Nelson Mandela passed away at the age of 95 on Thursday night at his home in Houghton, Johannesburg surrounded by his family.
