ODI: SA beat India by 141 runs

Johannesburg, Dec 5 : South Africa registered a massive victory over India as they defeated the visitors by 141 runs in the first One Day International (ODI) at New Wanderers Stadium here on Thursday.


Chasing South Africa's 358 for four, India were all out for 217 runs.

Skipper MS Dhoni was the only person who tried to put up some resistance against as he played a gutsy 65 off 71 ball before losing his wicket to Dale Steyn.

He hit eight boundaries and a six in his knock in his fight to save his side from a crushing defeat in the opening game.

Virat Kohli was the second high scorer for India with his 31.

The Indian batsmen failed and they did not look comfortable in the fast and bouncy conditions.

Rohit Sharma (18), Shikhar Dhawan (12), Yuvraj Singh (0) and Suresh Raina (14) failed to deliver with their willows.

South African bowlers dominated the game after their batsmen piled on a huge total on the board.

Dale Steyn took three wickets by giving away 25 runs in his eight overs while Ryan McLaren also scalped three wickets.

Earlier, South Africa posted mammoth 358 for four on the scorecard.

Opener Quinton de Kock hit the second century of his career as he scored 135 off 121 balls. He smashed 18 boundaries and three sixes in his knock.

Hashim Amla (65), AB de Villiers (77) and Jean-Paul Duminy (59*) all contributed with their willows.

Pacer Mohammed Shami picked up three wickets by giving away 68 runs in his 10 overs while Virat Kohli took one wicket.

The rest of the Indian bowlers struggled in this match.

South Africa went 1-0 up in the three-match series.
