Tejpal: Goa Police summon Shoma Chaudhury

Panaji, Dec 4 : The Goa Police on Wednesday summoned former Tehelka Managing Editor Shoma Chaudhury to record her statement in the sexual assault case against the magazine's former Editor-in-Chief Tarun Tejpal.

Meanwhile, the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) court on Wednesday rejected Tejpal's request for a fan in his jail cell.

The court rejected his application for an electric or battery fan in the barrack.

Tejpal has been sharing the jail space with four local frog and turtle poachers who were arrested on Nov 30.

His police custody ends on Friday.

Tejpal on Wednesday was again taken to Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) for further tests.

He was taken to GMCH on Monday for potency, blood and a range of mandatory tests.

He was also checked for mental health.

Tejpal, who was arrested by the Goa Police on Saturday after his anticipatory bail was rejected in the case of a sexual assault charge, was sent to a six-day police custody on Sunday, in response to a 14-day remand sought by the police for investigation.

Tejpal allegedly sexually assaulted a woman journalist of his organisation in an elevator of Grand Hyatt Goa during the Think festival of Tehelka where ironically the participants were debating on issues like rape. The action of Tejpal is considered as rape under the new definition of the anti-rape law in India.
