J&K: LeT militants killed in gunfight

Handwara, Dec 3 : A top level commander of Pakistan based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) was killed in a gunfight with the Indian security forces on Tuesday here in north Kashmir.

The LeT commander along with two associates were killed in the gunfight which lasted for 12 hours.

According to sources, the gunfight started on Monday evening and ended late in the night.

"Abu Wikas, Lashkar's Divisional Commander for North Kashmir and his two associates Qari Noman and Ubaid were killed in the encounter," said Mohammad Aslam Chowdary, Superintendent of Police (SP) Handwara.

He informed that the identity cards of the deceased militants revealed that they were Pakistani nationals.

Chowdary said that the trio had been operating in the belt for a long time and were not fresh infiltrators.

He added that seven more militants are active in the area.
