Winona Ryder opens up about 'horrific' bullied life in school

Washington, November 9 : Winona Ryder has opened up about being bullied in her school as a teenager.

The actress said that she was bullied by a group of boys who thought she was a boy because she had a short haircut, ABC News reported.

Ryder said that she remembers the halls were empty and kids started shouting "faggot", and she didn't think they were talking to her.

The 'Girl,Interrupted' said that walking home after leaving the nurse's office, she remembers pressing on the bandage because she wanted it to look more dramatic.

She said that she had a inner monologue going of Humphrey Bogart saying "being roughed up".

The 42-year-old actress said that she was pretending she was in some gangster movie and she probably would have been really scared otherwise.

After the bullying incident, Ryder dropped out of school and was home-schooled, which gave her time to take classes at the American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco where she was discovered.

She added that had she not been homeschooled, she would not have been able to go.
