The event also marked the seventh edition of Sweden India Nobel Memorial Week 2013, which is a multi-city, multi-activity annual event organized by Embassy of Sweden in cooperation with leading Swedish businesses in India to recognise Swedish innovations throughout the world and strengthen Indo-Swedish relations.
Tagore won the Nobel Prize in Literature in the Year 2013, for Gitanjali.
The event translated into a platform for intriguing exchange of thoughts to explore the relevance of the philosophy and work of Tagore in the present time and age.
Ambassador of Sweden, Herald Sandberg said, "This event is an effort to showcase the relevance of Tagore's work in today's time and spread it even further."
Talking about the poet's significance in Europe and rest of the world, he said, "Tagore's views on humanity and openness in society and his skepticism to chauvinism and parochialism are very, very relevant, universally. I think we should read more of Tagore than what we do."
"In addition to Tagore's Gitanjali and Gardener a few more of his works have been translated into Swedish, but with the development of the language we look forward to more translations in the near future," the Ambassador said in the context of the efforts taken up by the Embassy of Sweden to promote Indo-Swedish culture exchange.
Tagore was a zealous champion of women's rights and constantly worked towards their education and upliftment.
Saluting this spirit, the event translated into a platform for intriguing exchange of thoughts on the theme of 'women empowerment'.
Nicolas Frisk, MD Oriflame India, brought to stage the women achiever Chanda Gayen who had scaled Mt. Everest and Mt Lhotse.
