D K Arya, DIG, Chambal Range said at least 5 lakh devotees visited the temple since morning for the Durga Puja festivities.
"Over 25,000 people were crossing the bridge when the stampede occurred," said Arya. Police denied that any lathicharge caused the tragedy.

Angry devotees meanwhile pelted stones at the police following the stampede alleging that they did not act on time to prevent the injuring at least six cops.
