The Nobel Assembly at Karolinska Institutet on Thursday decided to award the Nobel Prize for Literature to Canadian writer Alice Munro.

"The Nobel Prize in Literature for 2013 is awarded to the Canadian author Alice Munro," the Nobel Assembly at Karolinska Institutet said in a statement.

It described her as "master of the contemporary short story".
