According to Indian Meteorological Department, the quake was of moderate intensity and occurred at 11:42:40 HRS (IST) with a depth of 10 km.
The epicentre of the tremor was at Lat. 27.4°N Long. 88.5°E which falls under Sikkim. The busy town of Siliguri in north Bengal also felt the tremor.
Reports said some schools were declared holiday after the quake as Sikkim still remembers under the devastating quakes of 2011.
The Sept 18, 2011 quake had killed 111 people in the Himalayan region, including in Nepal, with most deaths occurring in Sikkim. East Sikkim was most affected.
