In a letter to the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Jaitley said false charges are being levelled on Modi and his close aide Amit Shah without any "prosecutable evidence" in order to fight for the upcoming elections.
He accused that since the ruling Congress cannot defeat the BJP politically, the party has sought to manipulations using investigation agencies to falsely implicate Modi.
"The Congress strategy in the face if its' depleting popularity is clear. Congress cannot fight the BJP and Narendra Modi politically. Defeat stares them in the face," Jaitley wrote in his letter.
"By misuse of investigative agencies they have so far tried various methods of falsely implicating Narendra Modi, the Chief Minister of Gujarat, Shri Amit Shah, the then Home Minister and also the Minister of Law, Transport and Parliamentary Affairs of the State of Gujarat and General Secretary of Bhartiya Janata Party and other important BJP leaders," his letter said.
Giving instances in his letter, he said that in the Ishrat Jahan case, the CBI struck deals with some suspects to trap others.
Jaitley has demanded that a panel led by a Supreme Court judge must probe charges of politicisation of CBI probe.
"I do believe that it is your responsibility and indeed duty to look into all these facts and restore the professionalism and independence of the Investigative agencies. If this practice is not stopped it will set a precedent which will hurt India's Democracy. The charges of politicization and motivated investigation should all be subjected to a Commission of Inquiry headed by a sitting of the Supreme Court," Jatley wrote to PM.
